Stophira Sinzu made the winning spot kick in the ninth round of the penalty-kick shootout as Zambia defeated Ivory Coast 8-7 in the shootout (following 120 scoreless minutes) to win their first African Nations Cup title.  The Copper Bullets had lost the 1974 and 1994 finals. The Elephants had a chance to take the lead late in regulation time but Didier Drogba failed on his penalty-kick attempt in the 70th minute (that's the frustrated Chelsea star, pictured here).  Christopher Katongo, Emmanuel Mayuka, Isaac Chansa, Felix Katongo, Kennedy Mweene, Nathan Sinkala, and Chismaba Lungu also made their spot kicks for the southern African country, while the Elephants failed on their last two spot kicks.

The victory for the Copper Bullets came nineteen years after 18 members of their squad lost their lives in a plane crash at Libreville.
