US Open Cup: Sounders Finish Off Cal FC's Magical Run; Goats, SKC, Quakes Advance; Harrisburg, Charlotte, Dayton In Quarterfinals Too

Eight games were on the US Open Cup agenda on Tuesday with the winners advancing to the quarterfinal round.

At Cary, North Carolina:

Juan Pablo Angel's stoppage-time penalty kick (90'+3) provided the winning margin as Chivas USA defeated the Carolina RailHawks (NASL) 2-1 on the road.

At Harrisburg, Pennsylvania:

Sainey Touray scored twice (13', 94') and Lucky Mikosana once (117') as the Harrisburg City Islanders (USLP) knocked off the visiting New York Red Bulls 3-1 in overtime.

At Boyds, Maryland:


Antoine Hoppenot scored the winning overtime goal in the 93rd minute as the visiting Philadelphia Union defeated DC United 2-1.

At Pontiac, Michigan:

Joel DeLasse scored the winning goal in overtime (PK-97') as the Dayton Dutch Lions (USLP) defeated the home-standing Michigan Bucks (PDL) 2-1.

At Kansas City, Kansas:

Aurelien Collin (27') and Teal Bunbury (79') each scored once as Sporting Kansas City blanked the visiting Colorado Rapids 2-0.

At San Antonio:

Mauricio Salles' overtime penalty kick in the 117th minute carried the traveling Charlotte Eagles (USLP) to a 2-1 win over the San Antonio Scorpions (NASL).

At Tukwila, Washington:

Osvaldo Alonso (50', 70') and Fredy Montero (58', 68') each scored twice in the second half as the Seattle Sounders busted open what was a scoreless stalemate at halftime and turned it into a 5-0 annihilation of visiting Cal FC (USASA).

At Stanford, California:

Steven Lenhart scored the only goal of the match in the 85th minute as the San Jose Earthquakes took out the last remaining NASL club, the Minnesota Stars, 1-0 at home.
