MLS: Timbers Blank Sounders In Cascadia Cup Clash, Move To Top Of Western Conference Standings; Whitecaps Win Cascadia Cup

At Portland, Oregon:

Kalif Alhassan scored the only goal of the match in the 45th minute as the Portland Timbers defeated the suddenly slumping, visiting ten-man Seattle Sounders 1-0 in the lone Sunday Major League Soccer contest.  The win moved the Timbers to the top of the Western Conference standings and on the cusp of clinching their maiden MLS playoff berth.  The Sounders' defeat clinched the Cascadia Cup crown for the Vancouver Whitecaps.  Each of the three Cascadia MLS clubs have won the trophy once apiece since the competition was revived in 2011 when Portland and Vancouver joined MLS.
