UEFA Champions League Playoff Round: Dinamo Zagreb, Bhoys, Shakhtar, Valencia Take Series Openers; Maccabi Tel Aviv Gained Series-Opening Road Draw With Basel

Five games were played on Wednesday as the UEFA Champions League's playoff round continued.

At Elbasan, Albania:

Josip Pivaric scored the winning goal in the third minute of second-half stoppage time as Dinamo Zagreb knocked off Skenderbeu Korce 2-1 on the road in the opening contest of their two-game series.

At Glasgow, Scotland:

Leigh Griffiths scored twice (3', 62') and Nir Bitton once (10') as Celtic held off visiting Malmo 3-2 in game one.  Jo Inge Berget scored twice (52', 90'+5) to keep the Swedish club in the series.

At Basel, Switzerland:

Eran Zahavi scored twice (30', 90'+6) to lift Maccabi Tel Aviv to a series-opening 2-2 road draw with FC Basel.  Matias Delgado (PK-39') and Breel Embolo (88') each scored once for the Swiss club.

At Vienna:

Marlos scored the only goal of the match in the 44th minute as Shakhtar Donetsk took game one from Rapid Vienna 1-0 on the road.

At Valencia, Spain:

Daniel Parejo scored the winning goal in the 59th minute as Valencia topped visiting AS Monaco 3-1 in the opening match of their two-game series.
