Alvaro Saborio (7') and Joao Plata (78') provided the scoring as Real Salt Lake held off the visiting Portland Timbers 2-1.
RSL will host DC United in the October 1 final with the winner qualifying for the group stage of the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League (as well as $250,000).

US Open Cup: DCU, Fire, Timbers, RSL Reach Semis; Last Remaining Non-MLS Clubs Fall
The quarterfinal round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament took place on Wednesday with four games.
At Boyds, Maryland:
Chris Pontius (45'), Dwayne De Rosario (69'), and Lionard Pajoy (PK-89') each scored a goal as DC United defeated the visiting New England Revolution 3-1 in a battle of Major League Soccer clubs.
At Bridgeview, Illinois:
Chris Rolfe scored twice (6', 64') as the Chicago Fire hammered visiting Orlando City (USL Pro League) 5-1.
At Frisco, Texas:
Second-half goals from Darlington Nagbe (61'), Diego Valeri (63'), and Frederic Piquionne (72') enabled the Portland Timbers to come from behind and hold off FC Dallas 3-2 on the road, stretching their unbeaten streak to eighteen games in all competitions. The Timbers have reached the semifinal round of the US Open Cup for the first time in their history, as well as winning for the first time in the state of Texas.
At Sandy, Utah:
Tony Beltran (26'), Chris Wingert (50'), and Alvaro Saborio (86') each scored a goal as Real Salt Lake defeated the visiting Carolina Railhawks (NASL) 3-0, leaving the tournament without a non-MLS club left in it.
The semifinal round will take place on August 7, with Portland visiting RSL in Sandy, Utah, and the Chicago Fire will host DC United at Bridgeview, Illinois. The semifinal winners will square off in the final, which will be played on October 1 or 2.

This game was postponed from Wednesday due to inclement weather.

Reading United AC (PDL) upended the visiting Harrisburg City Islanders (USL Pro) 1-0. Reading United will take on the New York Red Bulls in the third round next Wednesday at Harrison, New Jersey.
At Rochester, New York:
The Rochester Rhinos (USL Pro) defeated visiting GPS Portland Phoenix (PDL) 1-0. The Rhinos will host the New England Revolution next Tuesday.
At Richmond, Virginia:
The Richmond Kickers (USL Pro) dominated visiting Icon FC (USASA) 4-1, earning a home encounter for next Tuesday with DC United.
At Cary, North Carolina:

Darius Madion (50') and Steve Neumann (55') each delivered a goal five minutes apart as Reading United AC (Premier Development League, with is in the fourth level of the American soccer pyramid) blanked visiting FC Sonic Lehigh Valley (National Professional Soccer League, also in the fourth division) 2-0.
At Conyers, Georgia:
The Georgia Revolution (NPSL) won a high-scoring affair against visiting Real Colorado Foxes (PDL) 4-3 in a battle of fourth-division clubs.
At Orlando, Florida:
After a 1-1 draw through 120 minutes, VSI Tampa Bay FC (of the United Soccer Leagues' Pro League, in the third tier of American soccer) converted all five of their spot kicks and won the penalty-kick shootout on the road, defeating Orlando City U-23 (PDL) 5-3 to advance to the second round.
At Greensboro, North Carolina:
In a battle of fourth-division clubs, after a 4-4 deadlock through 120 minutes, the Carolina Dynamo (PDL) defeated the NPSL's Chattanooga FC 4-1 in the penalty-kick shootout.

After a 1-1 deadlock through overtime, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL Pro) took the penalty-kick shootout, 5-3 at the expense of visiting RWB Adria (USASA).
