GOATS SURVIVE REDS RALLY, WIN PK SHOOTOUT TO CLAIM CONCACAF CLUB TITLE (ANOTHER ONE FOR MEXICO)

At Guadalajara, Mexico:

In Wednesday's second game of the CONCACAF Champions League Final, after dropping a 2-1 regulation decision at home to Toronto FC (thanks to goals from Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco), thus squaring the series at 3-3 on aggregate (and with overtime dispensed with), Chivas de Guadalajara, with spot kicks successfully converted by Oswaldo Alanis, Jose de Jesus Godinez, Alan Pulido, and Angel Zaldivar, won the penalty-kick shootout 4-2 to win their first continental club championship since 1962 (their second overall) and will represent CONCACAF in December's FIFA Club World Cup, set to be contested in the United Arab Emirates.

CONCACAF Champions League Final: Goats Take Series Opener In Toronto

At Toronto:

In Tuesday's opening match of the CONCACAF Champions League final, Rodolfo Pizarro (2') and Alan Pulido (72') each scored once as Chivas de Guadalajara knocked off Toronto FC 2-1 on the road.

The series will conclude next Wednesday at Guadalajara, Mexico (6:30 PM Pacific Time, Univision Deportes Network).

Tigres Back On Winning Track Thanks To Stoppage-Time Tally

At San Nicolas de los Garza, Mexico:


Juninho delivered the winning goal in second-half stoppage time (90'+2) as Tigres defeated visiting Chivas de Guadalajara 2-1 in Saturday Mexican Primera Division action.  The victory moved Tigres back to the top of the league (Clausura) standings.

Own Goal Drops Points At Home For Tigres

At San Nicolas, Mexico:

Juninho's own goal at 70 minutes allowed Chivas de Guadalajara to gain a 1-1 road draw with Tigres in Sunday action in the Mexican Premiera Division.  That tally canceled out teammate Francisco Javier Acuna Victor's goal, which was scored just before halftime (45').

More Swine Flu Problems For The Copa Libertadores

Looks as if Colombian authorities wanted no part of having their countries host games involving Mexican clubs in the Copa Libertadores.

Keep in mind that the Copa is governed by COMNEBOL, which is South America's soccer confederation, while Mexico is a member of CONCACAF, which governs North and Central America and the Caribbean (the US is a member of CONCACAF).
