MLS: Whitecaps Ruin Impact Debut; RSL Ruin Start Of Galaxy Title Defense; SKC, Quakes, Rapids Grab Opening-Day Wins

Major League Soccer's seventeenth season commenced with five games contested on Saturday.


At Vancouver, British Columbia:


Sebastian Le Toux (4') and Camilo Sanvezzo (54') provided the scoring as the Vancouver Whitecaps ruined the MLS debut of the Montreal Impact 2-0 at home.


At Commerce City, Colorado:


Drew Moor (44') and Quincy Amarikwa (89') each tallied once as the Colorado Rapids blanked the visiting Columbus Crew 2-0.


At Washington:


C. J. Sapong scored the only goal of the match in second-half stoppage time (90'+3) as Sporting Kansas City downed DC United 1-0 on the road.


At Santa Clara, California:


Chris Wondolowski scored the lone goal of the match in the 15th minute as the San Jose Earthquakes blanked the visiting New England Revolution 1-0.


At Carson, California:


Sean Franklin (OG-73'), Javier Morales (80'), and Fabian Espindola (85') each provided a goal as Real Salt Lake came from behind to spoil the opening of the Los Angeles Galaxy's MLS title defense 3-1 on the road.
