MLS: Wondo's Game-Winner Completes Comeback For Quakes; DCU, Crew, Dynamo, Rapids Pick Up Saturday Wins

Seven games were played in Major League Soccer on Saturday.


At Toronto:


Danny Koevermans scored in the 6th minute to lift Toronto FC to a 1-1 home draw with the New York Red Bulls, stretching the Reds' unbeaten streak to four games.  Jan Gunar Solli scored for the Red Bulls in the 3rd minute.


At Washington:


Chris Pontius (45'+1), Robbie Russell (50'), and Hamdi Salihi (90'+1) each scored once as DC United reclaimed sole control of the Eastern Conference lead with their 3-0 home domination of the Montreal Impact.


At Foxborough, Massachusetts:


Diego Fagundez delivered a second-half stoppage-time equalizer (90'+4) as the New England Revolution came back to gain a 2-2 home draw with the Seattle Sounders.  Saer Sane scored for the Revs in the 12th minute while both Sounders goals came from Eddie Johnson in the 23rd and 34th minutes.


At Columbus, Ohio:


With Tony Tchani (16') and Eddie Gaven (44') each delivered a goal as the Columbus Crew blanked visiting Real Salt Lake 2-0.


At Houston:


Brian Ching's penalty kick in the 83rd minute proved to be the game winner as the Houston Dynamo defeated the visiting Philadelphia Union 2-1.


At Commerce City, Colorado:


Jaime Alberto Castrillon (17'), Conor Casey (21'), and Jaime Smith (88') provided the scoring as the Colorado Rapids spanked the visiting Portland Timbers 3-0.


At Palo Alto, California:


Victor Bernardez (43'), Sam Cronin (46'), and Chris Wondolowski (61') provided the scoring as the San Jose Earthquakes----to go with Steven Lenhart's 7th-minute tally----came back from a 3-1 deficit to upend the visiting Los Angeles Galaxy 4-3.

EURO 2012: Mario Balotelli Double Sends Azzuri Into Final Versus Spain

Mario Balotelli scored twice in the first half (20', 36', the second goal pictured here) as Italy held off Germany 2-1 on Thursday to set up Sunday's European Championship final against defending champions Spain at Kiev, Ukraine.


The Spaniards will try to become the first team to win back-to-back European championships and tie Germany's record with a third title.  The Italians will be seeking their first European title since 1968.

HJK Gain Road Draw After Coming Back From Two-Goal Deficit

At Jacobstad, Finland:


Juho Makela (45') and Demba Savage (60') each scored a goal as league-leading HJK Helsinki came back from a two-goal deficit to gain a 2-2 Thursday Finnish Veikkausliiga road draw with FF Jaro.  Frank Jonke (25') and Mattias Wargh (43') each scored once for the struggling hosts.

Copa Libertaodres Final: Late Goal Gains Road Draw For Corinthians In Series Opener

MLS: Reds Blow Out Impact In Montreal

At Montreal:


In the lone Wednesday Major League Soccer contest,  Torsten Frings (52'), Ryan Johnson (72'), and Danny Koevermans (77') each scored a goal in the second half as Toronto FC picked up only their second league victory of the season, breaking open what was a scoreless stalemate at halftime and converting it into a 3-0 road rout of the Montreal Impact.

After 120 scoreless minutes, Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, and with the winning spot kick, Cesc Fabregas, converted their penalty kicks as Spain defeated Portugal 4-2 in the penalty-kick shootout to advance to Sunday's European Championship final in Kiev against the winner of Thursday's Italy-Germany semifinal.

US Open Cup: All-MLS Semifinal Round

Four games were played on Tuesday as the quarterfinal round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament took place as three clubs from the third-division USL Pro League remained alive as action started.


At Chester, Pennsylvania:


Lionard Pajoy scored twice (29', PK-68') as the Philadelphia Union took care of the visiting Harrisburg City Islanders (USPL) 5-2.


At Kansas City, Kansas:


C. J. Sapong scored twice (4', 59') as Sporting Kansas City dominated the visiting Dayton Dutch Lions (USPL) 3-0.


At Fullerton, California:


Jose Erick Correa scored twice, scoring first in the 65th minute, then notching the winning goal deep into second-half stoppage time (90'+4) as Chivas USA defeated the visiting Charlotte Eagles (USPL) 2-1.


At San Francisco:


Cordell Cato scored the only goal of the match in the 19th minute as the Seattle Sounders, in the lone all-MLS contest, defeated the San Jose Earthquakes, who finished the game with ten men, 1-0.


On July 11, Chivas USA will travel to Tukwila, Washington to take on the Seattle Sounders while Sporting Kansas City will visit the Philadelphia Union the next day, with the winners to meet on August 7 or 8 for the title and a berth in the group stage of the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League.

MLS: Timbers Top Sounders In Cascadia Cup Clash; Brandon Barklage Haunts Former Team In Red Bulls Victory Over DCU

Kris Boyd (16') and David Horst (25') provided the goals as the Portland Timbers defeated the visiting Seattle Sounders 2-1 for their first MLS triumph over their arch-rivals and three points in Cascadia Cup competition.

Brandon Barklage scored twice (20', 47') against his former team while Jan Gunnar Solli scored the game winner in the 55th minute as the New York Red Bulls  pulled themselves level on points atop the Eastern Conference standings following their 3-2 win over visiting DC United.

At Trondheim, Norway:


Borek Dockal's double (PK-45'+1, 77) combined with Lars Saetra's own goal in the fourth minute to carry Rosenborg to a 3-3 Sunday Norwegian Eliteserien home draw with Stromsgodset.  Ola Kamara delivered a hat trick (44', 65', 74') for the guests who now sit atop the league standings.

Home Draw Drops Seoul To Third In K-League Standings

At Seoul, South Korea:


Maranhao's equalizer in the 46th minute lifted Ulsan Hyundai to a 1-1 Sunday K-League road draw with FC Seoul, who fell to third place in the league standings.  Mauricio Molina scored in the 41st minute for the hosts.

B36 and visiting TB battled to a 2-2 Sunday Faroese Meistaradeildin draw.

Colo-Colo Blown Out In Semifinal Finale, Lose Series

At Santiago, Chile:


Junior Fernandes delivered a natural hat trick on Sunday (21', 82', 90') as Universidad de Chile blew out visiting Colo-Colo 4-0 in the second game of their two-game Chilean Primera Division Apertura playoff semifinal series, (in which each team earned three points) which they won due to superior goal differential (+2 to -2).

Santos And Coritiba Battle To 2-2 Draw

At Santos, Brazil:


Coritiba battled home-standing Santos to a 2-2 Sunday Brazilian Serie A draw.  Rafinha (50') and Lincoln (PK-75') scored for the visitors while the Santos tallies came courtesy of Edu Dracena (32') and Neymar (71').

Boca Drop Season Finale, Finish Fourth In Clausura Standings

At Buenos Aires:


Juan Emmanuel Perea scored a natural hat trick (13', 40', 52') as All Boys held off visiting Boca Juniors 3-1 on Sunday in the Argentinian Primera Division Clausura season finale for both teams.  Boca will finish in fourth place in the league standings.  Arsenal de Sarandi will finish on top.

EURO 2012: England Done In Again By PK Shootout; Azzurri To Get Crack At Germany

At Kiev, Ukraine:

In the final game of the European Championship's quarterfinal round, after 120 scoreless minutes, Italy defeated England 4-3 in a penalty-kick shootout on Sunday.  Mario Balotelli, Andrea Pirlo, Antonio Nocerino, and Alessandro Diamanti converted their spot kicks for the Azzurri, who will face Germany on Thursday at Warsaw, Poland in a semfinal-round encounter, with the winner to play for the title next Sunday against the Spain-Portugal winner.  Here's goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon celebrating after the game.  He made a key save on Ashley Cole's spot kick during the shootout.

CALEDONIA AIA WINS CFU CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ON PENALTY KICKS

At San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago:


After 90 scoreless minutes and after each team (Radanfah Abu Bakr for Caledonia AIA in the 98th minute, Clyde Leon for W Connection in the 106th) scored once during overtime, Caledonia AIA won the penalty-kick shootout 4-3 and won the CFU Club Championship on Thursday.  Both Trinidadian clubs qualified for the upcoming CONCACAF Champions League.


Earlier Thursday, in the third-place playoff, Josh Hansen (19') and Jonathan Fana (PK-52') each scored a goal as the Puerto Rico Islanders defeated Antigua Barracuda 2-0 and also clinched a berth in the CONCACAF Champions League.


Caledonia AIA will be in Group Five in the CONCACAF Champions League's group stage alongside the Seattle Sounders and CD Marathon of Honduras.


W Connection will be in Group Eight along with Club Xelaju MC of Guatemala and Mexico's Chivas de Guadalajara.

Copa Libertadores: Scoreless Draw In Santiago Good Enough For Boca To Advance To Final

At Santiago, Chile:


A 0-0 Thursday stalemate on the road in game two of their Copa Libertadores semifinal series with Universidad de Chile proved good enough for Boca Juniors as the Argentinian club won the two-game series four points to one.


The Copa Libertadores two-match final between Boca Juniors and Corinthians will start next Wednesday at Buenos Aires with the return match taking place on July 4 at Sao Paulo.


The winner will take part in the FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place this coming December in Japan.

At Houston:


Will Bruin scored twice (72', 90') as the Houston Dynamo erased a two-goal deficit for a 3-3 home draw with Toronto FC.  Bobby Boswell also scored for the Dynamo in the 19th minute.  Danny Koevermans scored twice (21', 45') and Jeremy Hall one (12') for the visiting Reds.


At Sandy, Utah:


Landon Donovan scored twice (28', 68') and Mike Magee once (50') as the Los Angeles Galaxy came back from a two-goal deficit to upend Real Salt Lake 3-2 on the road.


At Commerce City, Colorado:


Chris Wondolowski's successful second-half stoppage-time penalty kick (90'+2) carried the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-1 come-from-behind road win over the Colorado Rapids.

Patrick Ianni's 14th-minute equalizer lifted the Seattle Sounders to a 1-1 home draw with Sporting Kansas City, despite ending the game playing with ten men.  Jacob Peterson scored for the visitors in the 8th minute.

Danilo's equalizer in the 47th minute enabled Corinthians to come from behind to gain a 1-1 Wednesday game-two home draw with Santos, eliminating the defending Copa Libertadores champions as they won their two-game semifinal series four points to one.  Corinthians will take on the Boca Juniors-Universidad de Chile winner in the two-match final which starts next Wednesday with the winner advancing to December's FIFA Club World Cup, to be played in Japan.

CFU Club Championship: Trinidadian Clubs Advance To Final; Clinch Berths In CONCACAF Champions League

At San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago:

The semifinal round of the CFU Club Championship took place with two games on Tuesday.

In the opener, Radanfan Abu Bakr (66') and Devorn Jorsling (86') each scored a goal as Caledonia AIA blanked Antigua Barracuda 2-0 to advance to the final.

In the nightcap, Rennie Britto scored twice (27', 67') as W Connection dominated the Puerto Rico Islanders 4-1.

The two clubs from Trinidad and Tobago was play in the final on Thursday at San Fernando.  Both W Connection and Caledonia AIA clinched berths in the group stage of the upcoming CONCACAF Champions League.

The title match is the nightcap of a Thursday doubleheader which will start with the third-place playoff between Antigua Barracuda and the Puerto Rico Islanders with the winner also qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League.
