FIFA Club World Cup: Al-Ahly, Monterrey Reach Semifinals

The FIFA Club World Cup commenced in Japan on Thursday and here's a recap of the weekend's games.

At Yokohama:

Toshihiro Aoyama scored the only goal of the match in the 66th minute on Thursday as J.League champs Sanfrecce Hiroshima blanked Oceanic club champions Auckland City 1-0.

At Toyota:

Cesar Delgado scored twice in the second half (77', 84') as CONCACAF club champions Monterrey from Mexico held off South Korea's Ulsan Hyundai (Asian champions) 3-1 to advance to the semfinal round on Saturday.

At Toyota:

In Sunday action, Mohamed Abo Trika scored the winning goal as African powerhouses Al-Ahly of Egypt defeated Sanfrecce Hiroshima 2-1 to advance to the semifinal round.

On  Wednesday, Al-Ahly will take on Copa Libertdores winners Corinthians at Toyota while Monterrey will take on UEFA Champions League titleholders Chelsea on Thursday in Yokohama.
