UEFA Champions League, Group G; Chelsea Top SPC; Royal Blues Jump Sporting Club For UCL Knockout-Stage Berth

Action from Group G of the UEFA Champions League closed with two Wednesday contests.

At London:

Cesc Fabregas (PK-8'), Andre Schurrle (16'), and John Obi Mikel (56', that's him, second from left, celebrating with teammates after scoring) each scored a goal as Chelsea defeated visiting Sporting CP 3-1 to cripple the Lions' chances of advancing to the Champions League's Round of 16.

At Maribor, Slovenia:

Max Meyer scored the only goal of the match in the 62nd minute as FC Schalke defeated NK Maribor 1-0 on the road to overtake Sporting CP and pick off a berth in the Champions League's knockout stage and end the Slovenian club's European campaingn.  We don't see Max here because he was being mobbed by happy teammates after he scored the goal that sent the Royal Blues into the UCL's knockout stage.
