Copa Libertadores: Group-Stage Opening Wins For Internacional, Emelec, Libertad; Universidad Catolica and Bolivar Draw

The opening week of group-stage action in the Copa Libertadores concluded with four games that were contested on Thursday.


Group One:


At Porto Alegre, Brazil:


Oscar (23') and Jesus Datolo (89') each scored a goal as Internacional defeated The Strongest 2-0 at home.


Group Two:


At Guayaquil, Colombia:


Luciano Figueroa's successful penalty kick in the 50th minute provided all the scoring in Club Sport Emelec's 1-0 home victory over Club Olimpia.


Group Three:


Roberto Ovelar's equalizer at 43 minutes enabled Universidad Catolica to salvage a 1-1 home draw with Club Bolivar.  William Ferreira scored for the visiting club from Bolivia in the 37th minute.

Group Five:


At Asuncion, Paraguay:


Luciano Civelli (46'), Sergio Aquino (PK-66'), and Mauro Caballero (78') each scored a goal during a four-tally second half that saw Club Libertad come from behind to overpower visiting Alianza Lima 4-1.
