UEFA Champions League Playoff Round: Shakhter, Viktoria Plzen Grab Series Openers At Home; Sociedad, Zenit Grab Series Openers On Road; 1-1 Draw Between PSV And Visiting Rossonari

Five games were played on Tuesday as the UEFA Champions League's playoff round commenced.

At Astana, Kazakhstan:

Andrei Finonchenko (12') and Sergei Khizhnichenko (77') provided the scoring as FC Shakhter Karagandy blanked visiting Celtic 2-0 in game one of the clubs' two-match series.

At Plzen, Czech Republic:

Marian Cisovsky (8'), Vladimir Darida (58'), and Michal Duris (90') each scored a goal as FC Viktoria Plzen defeated visiting NK Maribor 3-1 in their series opener.

At Lyon, France:

Antoine Griezmann (17') and Haris Seferovic (50') provided the scoring as Real Sociedad blanked Lyon 2-0 on the road in match one of their two-game series.

At Porto, Portugal:

Roman Shirokov delivered a hat trick (27', 60', 90') as Zenit Saint Petersburg found themselves 90 minutes away from the group stage of the Champions League following their series-opening 4-1 road beatdown of Pacos de Ferreira.

At Eindhoven, Netherlands:

Tim Matavz delivered the equalizer in the 60th minute as PSV Eindhoven salvaged a series-opening 1-1 home draw with AC Milan.  Stephan El Shaarawy scored for the visiting Rossoneri in the 15th minute.
