The final cycle of group-stage contests in the CONCACAF Gold Cup opened on Friday with two Group A matches taking place at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
In the opener, Ariel Francisco Rodriguez (4'), Rodney Wallace (79'), and David Ramirez (83') each scored once as Costa Rica clinched top spot in Group A after their 3-0 domination (and this time it wasn't by forfeit) of French Guiana.
In the nightcap, Canada and Honduras battled to a 0-0 stalemate as both teams locked up berths in the quarterfinal round with the former finishing second and the latter, assuring themselves of being one of the two third-placed teams with the best records.
Final Group A Standings:
1. Costa Rica (GP: 3; GD: +4; PTS: 7)
2. Canada (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 5)
3. Honduras (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 4)
4. French Guiana (GP: 3; GD: -8; PTS: 0)
NOTE: Earlier on Friday, CONCACAF awarded Honduras a 3-0 forfeit win over French Guiana (the contest, played on Tuesday, originally ended in a 0-0 deadlock) after the French colony fielded an ineligible player.
