Robbie Keane (the league's---and game's Most Valuable Player) scored the winning goal in the 111th minute on Sunday as the Los Angeles Galaxy won their record-breaking fifth Major League Soccer Cup championship 2-1 in overtime over the visiting New England Revolution as Landon Donovan, in his final match as a professional, won a sixth MLS Cup title.  The Revs are now 0-5 in MLS Cup Finals, losing by one goal to the Galaxy---in overtime---for the third time.

Gyasi Zardes opened the scoring for Los Angeles in the 52nd minute, then Chris Tierney equalized for New England in the 79th as the regulation wound up deadlocked at 1-1.

Goals from Omar Gonzalez (60', he was named the game's Most Valuable Player), Landon Donovan( PK-65') , and Robbie Keane (90'+4) enabled the Los Angeles Galaxy to overcome a one-goal halftime deficit and defeat the Houston Dynamo in the MLS Cup Final for the second straight year, this time by a 3-1 score on Saturday as David Beckham played his final Major League Soccer contest.

The championship was the Galaxy's fourth MLS Cup triumph, tying them with DC United for most MLS Cup titles.

Calen Carr scored the lone Houston goal in the 44th minute.

LANDON DONOVAN GOAL CARRIES GALAXY TO FIRST MLS CROWN SINCE 2005

In front of a sellout crowd at the Home Depot Center, Landon Donovan, named the game's Most Valuable Player, took a pass from Robbie Keane (who in turn, had taken a pass form David Beckham) , then delivered the only goal of the match in the 72nd minute on Sunday night as the Los Angeles Galaxy won their third Major League Soccer Cup title, their first since 2005, 1-0 over the Houston Dynamo.  The Galaxy finished the MLS season undefeated at home.

RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando, who was on the DC United championship squad five years ago, was named the Most Valuable Player of the match. More than 46,000 fans showed up for the contest at Qwest Field.

Before the largest crowd to watch a soccer match in the United States since the 1994 World Cup---93,137 at the Rose Bowl---FC Barcelona defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1 in an international exhibition match on Saturday night.

Pedro Rodriguez (11') and Jeffren Suarez (67') scored for the reigning Spanish and European champs, while David Beckham scored for the Galaxy in the 45th minute on a free kick from just outside Barca's penalty area.

Well, it became official on Monday, as the Los Angeles Galaxy named former DC United, US National Team, and New York Red Bulls head coach Bruce Arena to become their new head coach and general manager.

Citing personal reasons, Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy head coach Ruud Gullit resigned Monday. He's been replaced on an interim basis by former long-time Galaxy player Cobi Jones.

The Galaxy, led by English star David Beckham and Landon Donovan, are on a seven-match winless streak as they play Chivas USA on Thursday night.

"There are two good people that for different reasons aren't part of this organization today, and that's a shame," Leiweke said. "The fact is, the players have to look deep inside themselves and understand they have to be responsible for some of this.

"Am I angry we find ourselves in the situation we find ourselves in? Yes. This is not a fun week. The Galaxy hasn't made the playoffs for a couple years. Punting on this season is not acceptable. It starts Thursday."

Much was expected when Beckham joined the Galaxy last season. But he was limited to five games because of injuries and the Galaxy went 9-14-7 for 34 points, and were eliminated from playoff contention on the season's final day.

The Galaxy were in pretty good shape this season before the recent winless streak left them at 6-8-5 with just 23 points.

Also gone is President/General Manager Alexi Lalas.

The Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday named former Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Feyenoord Rotterdam coach Ruud Gullit as their new head coach. The former European footballer (or soccer player) of the year succeeds Frank Yallop, who resigned to become head coach of the revived San Jose Earthquakes.
