CREW SCHOOL SOUNDERS AS COLUMBUS CAPTURES FIRST MLS CUP TITLE SINCE '08

At MAPFRE Stadium, Columbus, Ohio: 

Lucas Zelarayan scored twice (25', 82') and Derrick Etienne, Jr. once (31') as the Columbus Crew won their second MLS Cup championship, their first since 2008, by dominating the visiting (and defending champions) Seattle Sounders 3-0 on Saturday in the final game played at MAPFRE Stadium (the Crew will be moving to their new stadium in 2021.

SOUNDERS HOLD OFF REDS FOR SECOND MLS CUP TITLE IN FOUR YEARS

At Seattle:

Kelvin Leerdam (58'), Victor Rodriguez (76'; named game's Most Valuable Player), and Raul Ruidiaz (90') each scored once as the Seattle Sounders defeated visiting Toronto FC 3-1 in Sunday's MLS Cup Final.

The championship was the Sounders second (the other taking place, also at the Reds' expense, in Toronto in 2016).

Jozy Altidore scored the lone Toronto goal in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time.

Jozy Altidore (67') and Victor Vazquez (90'+4) each scored once on Saturday as Toronto FC avenged their gut-wretching defeat from last year and blanked the defending MLS Cup champions Seattle Sounders 2-0 at home to win their first Major League Soccer championship to complete a domestic treble (the Reds also won the Canadian National Championship and the Supporters' Shield).

It marked the first time that a Canadian club won MLS' top prize.

At Toronto:

After 120 scoreless minutes, Brad Evans, Andres Ivanschitz, Joevin Jones, Nicolas Lodeiro, and (with the winning shot) Roman Torres all converted their spot kicks as the Seattle Sounders (who did not register a single shot on goal in regulation or overtime) won the penalty-kick shootout 5-4 on the road over Toronto FC to win their first MLS Cup championship (and with it, a berth in next season's CONCACAF Champions League).

Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei, who came up with seven saves against his former team (including a huge one against the Reds' Jozy Altidore in overtime) and one in the shootout, was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

CLINT DEMPSEY SCORES WINNING GOAL IN OT AS SOUNDERS TOP PHILLY TO CAPTURE 4TH US OPEN CUP TITLE

At Chester, Pennsylvania:

Goals from Chad Barrett (47'), Clint Dempsey (101'), and Obafemi Martins (114') enabled the Seattle Sounders to bounce back from behind to defeat the home-standing Philadelphia Union 3-1 in overtime to win the final of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament on Tuesday.

The Sounders, who won their fourth US Open Cup title in their six seasons of Major League Soccer existence, have qualified for the group stage of the 2015-16 CONCACAF Champions League as a result.

SKC ENDS SOUNDERS THREE-YEAR US OPEN CUP REIGN WITH PK SHOOTOUT WIN

At Kansas City, Kansas:

After Kei Kamara converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute to put Sporting Kansas City in front 1-0 in Wednesday's final of the US Open Cup tournament, Zach Scott equalized for the visiting Seattle Sounders in the 86th.  With the score deadlocked at 1-1 after regulation time, followed by thirty scoreless overtime minutes, the issue was decided in the penalty-kick shootout, during which, SKC's Paulo Nagamura converted what turned out to be the winning spot kick as SKC won their first Open Cup triumph since 2004, taking the shootout 3-2.  The hosts will take part in the group stage of the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League.  The Sounders' Eddie Johnson had a chance to keep his club in the shootout but his spot kick sailed high over the net.  This marked the first defeat in Open Cup for play for Seattle as an MLS club, hoping to win a record fourth straight title.

THIRD STRAIGHT US OPEN CUP CHAMPIONSHIP FOR SOUNDERS

At Seattle:


Fredy Montero (77') and Osvaldo Alonso (90'+6) provided the scoring as the Seattle Sounders won their third successive US Open Cup championship 2-0 at home over the Chicago Fire on Tuesday night before an Open Cup record crowd of 35,613 fans at CenturyLink Field.

MLS: Galaxy Ruin Sounders Opener

At Seattle:

Vitor Juninho Junior scored the only goal of the match at 57 minutes as the Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the homestanding Seattle Sounders 1-0 Tuesday night in the opening contest of the Major League Soccer season.

SOUNDERS MAKE IT TWO STRAIGHT US OPEN TITLES

Sanna Nyassi scored twice (38', 66') as Seattle Sounders FC defeated the Columbus Crew 2-1 Tuesday to become the first Major League Soccer club to win consecutive US Open Cup championships.  The game was played in front of a finals record 31,311 fans at Qwest Field.

Major League Soccer expansion club Seattle Sounders FC, on goals courtesy of Fredy Montero (67') and Roger Levesque (86'), held off--and detroned--hosts and defending champions DC United 2-1 to win the US Open Cup championship Wednesday night. The Sounders have assured themselves of at least playing in the qualifying round for the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League. Lionel Messi Double Helps Barca Sink Sounders

At Seattle:

Lionel Messi doubled in the first half as FC Barcelona dominated Seattle Sounders FC 4-0 Wednesday night in an exhibition match before 66,848 fans at Qwest Field.

Some Faces Seattle Bound

Major League Soccer held its expansion draft on Wednesday, with ten players selected by Seattle Sounders FC, who will begin play next season. Eugene, Oregon native Nate Jaqua was selected from the Houston Dynamo.

Nate will still be playing for the Dynamo tonight when they host the CONCACAF Champions League group stage finale against El Salvador's Luis Angel Firpo with a quarterfinal berth on the line.
