MLS Action, Saturday, September 23

Well, friends and neighbors, here's a look at Saturday's Major League Soccer action:



At Columbus, Ohio:

Jason Garey's goal in the 80th minute enabled the homestanding Columbus Crew to gain a 1-1 draw with the Houston Dynamo to keep their flickering Eastern Conference playoff hopes alive. Details here.


At Washington:

Jaime Moreno and Christian Gomez each had a goal and two assists to lift DC United to a 4-3 win over the visiting New York Red Bulls. The win clinches the Eastern Conference regular season championship, and best record in the entire league (winning the Community Shield) for DC. Details here.


At Foxboro, Massachusetts:

The Kansas City Wizards and homestanding New England Revolution each helped their playoff chances with a 1-1 draw. Details here.


At Frisco, Texas:

With goals from Carlos Ruiz (9') and Kenny Cooper (14'), FC Dallas clinched a Western Conference playoff berth by beating Real Salt Lake, and damaging the visitors playoff hopes, 2-1. Details here.


At Bridgeview, Illinois:

Andy Herron's successful penalty kick in the 84th minute lifted the Chicago Fire to a 2-1 home win over the Los Angeles Galaxy, clinching an Eastern Conference playoff berth, and delivering a crippling blow to Los Angeles' playoff chances. Details here.


At Carson, California:

Francisco Mendoza's goal in the 34th minute lifted homestanding Chivas USA to a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids. The win moved the Goats into second place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of Houston. Details here.
