Qualifying For AFC Champions League Commences

Qualifying for berths in the group stage of this year's AFC Champions League commenced over this past weekend.

East Asia Playoffs:

At Singapore:

Taisuke Akiyoshi (6'), Federico Martinez (PK-64'), and Indra Sahdan (PK-89') each scored once as Singapore Armed Forces FC smothered visiting Sriwijaya (Indonesia) 3-0 on Saturday to advance to this coming Saturday's East Asia playoff final.

At Da Nang, Vietnam:

With goals from Panupong Wongsa (33'), Christian Kouakou (45'), and Jakkraphan (81'), Muangthong United FC (Thailand) flattened SHB Da Nang FC 3-0 on the road, thus setting up a one-match East Asia final on Saturday at Singapore. The winner would advance to the Group Stage to be placed in Group G along with Henan Construction (China), Gamba Osaka (Japan), and Suwon Bluewings (South Korea).

West Asia Playoffs:

At Hims, Syria:

Mahmoud Khamis scored the only goal of the match at 72 minutes as Al-Wahda (United Arab Emirates) defeated hosts Al-Karamah 1-0 this past Saturday to advance to this coming Saturday's West Asia final at home against India's Churchill Brothers SC. The winner of that match will advance to the Group Stage where they would be place in Group B alsongside FC Zob Ahan (Iran), Al-Ittihad (Saudi Arabia), and FC Bunyodkor (Uzbekistan).
