Lamar Hunt, a major, visionary figure in American sports, a member of eight separate Halls of Fame, founder of the American Football League, founder and owner of the AFL/National Football League's Kansas City Chiefs, and a major force in American soccer, having been the owner of the Dallas Tornado of the United Soccer Association ,and later, the North American Soccer League, as well as owner-operator of Major League Soccer's FC Dallas and Columbus Crew (and, until recently, Kansas City Wizards), and for whom our country's soccer tournament, the US Open Cup was named for, passed away in Dallas on Wednesday night from prostate cancer at age 74.
