CONCACAF Champions League: Marathon Knock Saprissa Out Of Knockout Stage

Group stage play in the CONCACAF Champions League continued Wednesday night.

Group A:

At San Pedro Sula, Honduras:

In a match postponed from last month due to flooding, Marathon, which already clinched a berth in the quarterfinals, blanked Deportivo Saprissa 2-0 at home, thanks to goals from Marvin Chavez (11') and Milton Nunez (75'). The loss eliminated the Costa Rican club from knockout stage contention and put Mexico's Cruz Azul in the final eight.

FINAL GROUP A STANDINGS:

1. Marathon (GP: 6; GD: +7; PTS: 13)
2. Cruz Azul (GP: 6; GD: +4; PTS: 10)
3. Deportivo Saprissa (GP: 6; GD: -2; PTS: 10)
4. DC United (GP: 6; GD: -9; PTS: 1)

Marathon and Cruz Azul clinched quarterfinal round berths.
