2011 Copa Libertadores: Three More Two-Game Series Begin As Qualification For Group Stage Berths Continues

Three more two-game series in the qualifying round for Copa Libertadores group stage berths commenced on Wednesday.

At Sao Paulo, Brazil:

The opening match of the two-game set between Corinthians and visiting Deportes Tolima (Colombia) ended in a 0-0 stalemate as each team received a point for its' trouble.  The series will conclude next Wednesday at Ibague, Colombia.  The winner of this two match set would advance to the group stage where they would be placed in Group Seven, alongside Estudiantes (Argentina), Guarani (Paraguay), and Cruzeiro (Brazil).

At Montevideo, Uruguay:

In a game that saw all the goals scored in the first half hour, Liverpool FC of Montevideo, with goals from Maureen Franco (9') and Carlos Macchi (25') were held to a 2-2 home deadlock by Gremio.  The visiting club from Brazil got their goals from Andre Lima (6') and Douglas dos Santos (14').  Each team earned a point from this match.  Game two will take place next Wednesday at Porto Alegre, Brazil, with the winner of this two-game series joining Junior Barranquilla (Colombia), Oriente Petrolero (Bolivia), and Leon de Huanuco (Peru) in Group Two.

At Lima, Peru:

Antonio Pedroza (41') and Jorge Marcelo Rodriguez (PK-45') each tallied once as Jaguares de Chiapas (Mexico) knocked off Alianza Lima 2-0 on the road to grab all three points in the opening match of their two game set.  Next Tuesday, the two clubs will get together again, this time at Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico for the return match.  The winner of this two game series will join defending tournament champions Internacional (Brazil), Club Jorge Wilstermann (Bolivia), and Club Sport Emelec (Ecuador) in Group Six.
