CAF Champions League: Opening Weekend Of Preliminary Round Concludes

Sixteen games (all opening games of two-match home-and-away series) were played on Sunday as the opening weekend of the CAF Champions League's preliminary round came to a close.

At Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo:

Nnaemeka Anyanwu (40') provided the only goal of the match at 40 minutes as Enyimba International FC from Nigeria defeated Saint Michel d'Ouenze 1-0 on the road in the opening contest of their two-game series.

At Bitam, Gabon:

The opening match between US Bitam and Les Astres from Cameroon ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

At Bangui, Central African Republic:

Abdelmalek Mokdad provided all the scoring at 28 minutes as MC Alger (Algeria) took game one on the road at Olympic Real de Bangui's expense 1-0.

At Freetown, Sierra Leone:

Aliou Bagayoko provided both goals as Djoliba took game one on the road 2-0 over the East End Lions.

At Dakar, Senegal:

Ibrahima Ndoye's equalizer at 88  minutes salvaged a series-opening 1-1 deadlock for hosts ASC Diaraf against Gambia Ports Authority FC, whose goal came at 51 minutes from a mister Badie.

At Cotonou, Benin:

ASPAC FC took game one of their two-game set, 1-0 at home over Deportivo Mongomo (Equatorial Guinea).

At Abidjan, Ivory Coast:

Adama Bakayoko delivered a hat trick (21', 28', 84) as ASEC Mimosas demolished visiting CF Cansado (Mauritania) in the opening game of their two-match series.

At Harare, Zimbabwe:

Yvan Rajoarimanana scored a late goal (90') to carry CNaPS Sport (Madagascar) to a 1-0 road win over Motor Action in the opening contest of their two-match series.

At Huambo, Angola:

Paizinho (a.k.a. Herciano Chitaca Calenga) delivered both goals (28', 71') as Recreativo Caala defeated visiting Saint-George SA (Ethiopa) in the opening game of their two-game series.

At Buchanan, Liberia:

Morris Chigozie (26') and Sheriff Isa (65') provided the goal power as Kano Pillars (Nigeria) blanked Mighty Barrolle 2-0 in their series-opening contest on the road.

At Casablanca, Morocco:

Mouhcine Iajour scored twice in the first half (18', 43') after Abderahim Benkhajjan opened the scoring at 8 minutes as Wydad Casablanca dominated visiting Aduana Stars (Ghana) 3-0 in game one.

At Labe, Guinea:

ASFA Yennenga (Burkina Faso) held hosts Fello Star to a game-one 1-1 deadlock.

At Bujumbura, Burundi:

Vital'O FC held visiting Cotonsport Garoua (Cameroon) to a 2-2 draw in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Zanzibar City, Zanzibar:

The opening game between Zanzibar Ocean View and guests AS Vista Club (Democratic Republic of the Congo) ended in a 1-1 draw.

At Polokwane, South Africa:

Jabulani Maluleke  and Tebogo Langerman provided the scoring as Supersport United took game one at home, 2-0 over Matlama FC from Lesotho.

At Lobamba, Swaziland:

Vusi Thumbatha, Ndoda Mthethwa, and Sibusiso Dlamini each tallied once as Young Buffaloes dominated St Michel United (Seychelles) 3-0 in the opening contest of their two-game series.
