CAF Champions League: More Action From The Preliminary Round

The preliminary round in the CAF Champions League continued on Saturday.

At Nairobi, Kenya:

Zamalek (Egypt) erupted for four second-half goals as they blitzed hosts Ulinizi Stars 4-0 in game one of their two-match series.  Mahmoud Fathalla (PK-61'), Hassan Mostafa (69'), Mohamed Amine Aoudia (76'), and Ibrahim Salah (90') each tallied once in the second half for the five-time African club champions.The series is scheduled to conclude weekend after next at Cairo (pending on what may be happening in Egypt).  The winner of this series would face the winner of the APR (Rwanda)-Club Africain (Tunisia) series.


At Kigali, Rwanda:


Visiting Club Africain (with goals from Khaled Melliti [16'] and Hamza Messaadi [44']) and APR FC (Alfred Mgabo [43'] and 
Eugene Twite [PK-75'] providing the scoring) battled to a 2-2 series-opening deadlock.  The return match is scheduled to take place in two weeks at the Tunisian capital city of Tunis, with the winner of this two-match series heading to the first round proper to face the Ulinizi Stars-Zamalek series winner.


At Ndola, Zambia:


In match one of their two-game series, ZESCO United dominated visiting Liga Muculmana de Maputo (Mozambique) 3-0.  The series is slated to conclude week after next at Maputo, Mozambique, with the winner advancing to take on the Young Buffaloes (Swaziland)-St Michel United (Seychelles) winner.

At Niamey, Niger:

The opening contest between ASFAN and visiting JC Abidjan (Ivory Coast) ended in a 0-0 stalemate.  The return match is slated for weekend after next at the Ivoronian capital of Abidjan.

At Moroni, Comoros:

The opening contest between Elan Club and visiting Simba SC of Tanzania ended in a 0-0 deadlock.
