Europa League: Atletico, PAOK, Dragons Advance To Knockout Stage; Spurs, Bhoys On Brink of Elimination; Rennes, FC Copenhagen Eliminated

Match Day #5 in Europa League group-stage play commenced on Wednesday with 12 games.

Group A:

At Kazan, Russia:

Nelson Valdez scored twice (10', 51') as Rubin Kazan made short work of already-eliminated Shamrock Rovers 4-1 at home.


At London:

Goals from Dimitris Salpigidis (6') and Stefanos Athanasiadis (14') enabled PAOK FC to hold off Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 and clinch a berth in the knockout stage.

At Poltava, Ukraine:

Dame N'Doye scored both goals as FC Copenhagen drew 1-1 on the road with FC Vorskla Poltava.  Unfortunately, he scored an own goal in the 31st goal, then scored for the visiting Lions six minutes later as the Danish champions were eliminated from European competition.

At Warsaw, Poland:



With Dries Mertens (PK-59') and Zakaria Labyad (68') each scoring a second-half goal, PSV Eindhoven overpowered Legia Warsaw 3-0 on the road and won the Group C crown.  Both clubs will be playing in the Round of 32.

Hugo Viana scored the only goal of the match in the 51st minute as FC Porto locked up a berth in the knockout stage with their 1-0 home win over Birmingham City.
