DIDIER DROGBA COMES THROUGH FOR CHELSEA; LATE EQUALIZER AND GAME-WINNING PK IN SHOOTOUT NETS UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CROWN FOR CHELSEA ON GERMAN SOIL

At Munich, Germany:

Didier Drogba

After Thomas Muller's 83rd-minute header put Bayern Munich ahead 1-0 in Saturday's UEFA Champions League final at Alianz Arena, Chelsea's Didier Drogba headed in the equalizer in the 88th minute to force overtime.  With the game deadlocked at 1-1, Arjen Robben's penalty kick in the 95th minute was saved by Blues goalkeeper Petr Cech.  In the penalty-kick shootout, after David Luiz, Frank Lampard, and Ashley Cole made their spot kicks, after Bayern's Bastien Schweinsteiger's try hit the goalpost, it was Didier Drogba who netted the winning kick (shown here) that carried Chelsea to their first-ever Champions League crown (the first for a London-based club).  The Blues, as champions, automatically won their way to the group stage of next season's Champions League (knocking Tottenham Hotspur [who would have entered the playoff round as the fourth-place club in the English Premier League] out of the running as a result).
