The preliminary round for the 2012-13 OFC Champions League got under way with two games, both played at 'Atele, Tonga. Four clubs are playing with each team playing one game against each of the other clubs in the group. The club that finishes atop this group would advance to a one-match playoff, also in 'Atele against AS Mont-Dore of New Caledonia for a berth in the group stage.
In Tuesday's opening match, Silao Malo (7', 23') and Mike Saofaiga (26', 80') each scored twice as Kiwi FC (Samoa) spanked Pago Youth (American Samoa) 5-1.
In the nightcap, Lotoha'apai United from Tonga came back from a two-goal deficit to gain a 3-3 draw with Tupara Maraerenga (Cook Islands). Timote Maamaloa (68'), Mark Uhatahi (75'), and Lafaele Moala (81') each tallied for the Tongan club while Campbell Best (37') and Leo Berlim (55', 69') provided the scoring for the club from the Cook Islands.
