Jairo Arrieta scored the only goal of the match in the 58th minute as DC United defeated the visiting Montreal Impact 1-0.
At Chester, Pennsylvania:
The Colorado Rapids held the home-standing Philadelphia Union to a 0-0 stalemate.
At Vancouver, British Columbia:
Jozy Altidore scored twice (32', PK-90') as Toronto FC defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 on the road.
At Houston:
Giles Barnes scored the only goal of the match in the 66th minute as the Houston Dynamo----in former EPL manager Owen Coyle's first game as their new head coach----defeated the newly-rebranded Columbus Crew SC 1-0 at home.
At Frisco, Texas:
Blas Perez came through with the game-winning goal in the second minute of second-half stoppage time as FC Dallas defeated the visiting San Jose Earthquakes 1-0.
At Portland, Oregon:
The Portland Timbers and visiting Real Salt Lake battled to a 0-0 deadlock. Adam Kwarasey, who came over in the offseason to the Timbers from Stromgodset of the Norwegian Premier League to replace the departed Donovan Ricketts, came up with a shutout in his first MLS match, while his RSL counterpart, the veteran Nick Rimando, did the same.
