FIFA Women's World Cup: South Korea, England, France, Colombia Advance To Knockout Stage As Group-Stage Play Ends

Four games were played in Canada on Wednesday as FIFA Women's World Cup group-stage action concluded.
GROUP E:

At Moncton, New Brunswick:

Raquel Fernandez scored the only goal of the match in the 83rd minute as Brazil, who already clinched not only a knockout-stage berth but also top spot in Group E, defeated Costa Rica 1-0 to knock the Central American team out of the tournament.

At Ottawa:

Kim Soo-yun scored the winning goal in the 78th minute as South Korea defeated Spain 2-1 and advanced to the knockout stage as the Spaniards exit the tournament.

Final Group E Standings:

1. Brazil (GP: 3; GD: +4; PTS: 9)
2. South Korea (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 4)
3. Costa Rica (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 2)
4. Spain (GP: 3; GD: -2; PTS: 1)

Brazil and South Korea advanced to the knockout stage while Costa Rica failed to land one of the four best third-place finishes and was eliminated alongside Spain.



GROUP F:

At Ottawa:

Eugenie Le Sommer scored twice (13', 36') as France destroyed Mexico 5-0 and locked up top spot in Group F as well as a berth in the knockout stage.

At Montreal:

Karen Carney (15') and Fara Williams (PK-38') each scored once as England defeated Colombia 2-1 as both teams advanced to the knockout stage.

Final Group F Standings:

1. France (GP: 3; GD: +4; PTS: 6)
2. England (GP: 3; GD: +1; PTS: 6)
3. Colombia (GP: 3; GD: +1; PTS; 4)
4. Mexico (GP: 3; GD: -6; PTS: 1)

France, England, and Colombia (for finishing as one of the four best third-placed squads) advanced to the knockout stage.
