Two Wednesday matches were contested as Group C play in the UEFA Champions League came to an end.
At Basel, Switzerland:
Marco Streller (9') and Alexander Frei (84') each scored a goal as FC Basel shocked visiting Manchester United 2-1 to eliminate the three-time European champs from the tournament and placed themselves in the knockout stage. At Lisbon, Portugal:
Oscar Cardozo scored the only goal of the match in the 7th minute (he's shown here celebrating) as SL Benfica locked up the Group C crown with their 1-0 home win over FC Otelul Galati.

SL Benfica and FC Basel advanced to the Champions League's knockout stage, while it's the Europa League's Round of 32 for Manchester United. Wednesday marked the end of FC Otelul Galati's European adventure.

At Manchester, England:
Goals from Phil Jones (OG-3') and Pablo Aimar (61') enabled SL Benfica to gain a 2-2 road draw with Manchester United and clinch a berth in the knockout stage. Dimitar Berbatov (30', shown here) and Darren Fletcher (59') each scored once for the Red Devils.

Antonio Valencia (8', that's him being congratulated by Anderson and Nani) and Wayne Rooney (87;) provided the scoring as Manchester United eliminated FC Otelul Galati from the tournament with a 2-0 home win.

Two Wayne Rooney penalty kicks (64', 90'+2, that's him celebrating after his first score) provided all the scoring as Manchester United, despite finishing the game with ten men, defeated FC Otelul Galati 2-0 on the road.
At Basel, Switzerland:
Bruno Cesar (20') and Oscar Cardozo (75', that's him celebrating) each tallied once as SL Benfica defeated FC Basel 2-0 on the road.

Danny Welbeck scored twice in the first half (16', 17'), but it was Ashley Young's goal at 90 minutes that salvaged a 3-3 home draw for Manchester United against FC Basel. At Bucharest, Romania:
In a match played in the Romanian capital because the hosts' home stadium didn't meet UEFA criteria, Bruno Cesar scored the only goal in the 41st minute as SL Benfica blanked FC Otelul Galati 1-0 on the road. The Eagles' goal scorer is seen here mobbed by happy teammates.
