UEFA Champions League Group C: Red Devils Knocked Out At Basel; Eagles Win Group

Two Wednesday matches were contested as Group C play in the UEFA Champions League came to an end.


At Basel, Switzerland:





Marco Streller (9') and Alexander Frei (84') each scored a goal as FC Basel shocked visiting Manchester United 2-1 to eliminate the three-time European champs from the tournament and placed themselves in the knockout stage.  Here, we see a dejected Wayne Rooney trudging off the field after the defeat.


At Lisbon, Portugal:





Oscar Cardozo scored the only goal of the match in the 7th minute (he's shown here celebrating) as SL Benfica locked up the Group C crown with their 1-0 home win over FC Otelul Galati.

SL Benfica and FC Basel advanced to the Champions League's knockout stage, while it's the Europa League's Round of 32 for Manchester United.  Wednesday marked the end of FC Otelul Galati's European adventure.
