On Tuesday, FIFA awarded the 2014 World Cup to Brazil (which was the only candidate), which last hosted the event in 1950. It marks the first time that soccer's premier event will take place on the South American continent since Argentina hosted it in 1978. FIFA awarded the 2011 Women's World Cup to Germany.
