TERRIERS WIN TENSE PK SHOOTOUT TO WIN PROMOTION TO ENGLISH LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

Huddersfield Town's Daniel Ward celebrates with the League One Play-Off Trophy

After 120 scoreless minutes, in a penalty-kick shootout that lasted eleven rounds, Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Alex Smithers converted his spot kick while his Sheffield United counterpart Steve Simonsen, who made three huge saves in normal time, then two more in the shootout, saw his kick sail over the crossbar as the Terriers win the shootout 8-7 and therefore won Saturday's English League One promotion playoff final at Wembley Stadium to gain promotion to the League Championship after an eleven-year absence.  The Terriers will join already-promoted Charlton Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday in the second highest level of soccer in England.  Shown here is Hudderfield Town's Daniel Ward celebrating with the League One Playoff Trophy.
