Mexican Primera Division Clausura Playoffs: Monterrey, Club America, Santos Laguna Take Series Openers On Road; Tigres Win Series Opener At Home

The quarterfinal round of the Mexican Primera Division Clausura playoffs began with two games played on Wednesday and two more played on Thursday.


WEDNESDAY GAMES:


At Pachuca de Soto, Mexico:


Christian Bermudez scored twice (42', 58') as Club America downed Pachuca 3-1 on the road in the opening contest of their two-game series.


At Tijuana, Mexico:


Jesus Zavala (29') and Angel Reyna (50') each scored a goal as Monterrey defeated Club Tijuana 2-1 on the road in their series opener.


THURSDAY GAMES:


At Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico:


Daniel Luduena scored twice (25', 60') while Carlos Quintero scored the game winner deep into second-half stoppage time (90'+6) as Santos Laguna defeated Jaguares 4-3 on the road in the opening contest of their two-game series.


At San Nicolas de los Garza:


Hector Mancilla scored the only goal of the match in the 23rd minute as Tigres were the only club to win their series opener at home, 1-0 over Morelia.
