Two more games were played on Wednesday as Copa Libertadores group-stage qualifying continued.
At Curtiba, Brazil:
Ederson Alves Ribeiro Silva delivered the series-tying goal with his stoppage-time tally (90'+7) which enabled Atletico Paranaense to gain a game-two 2-1 home decision over Sporting Cristal. Then, with the series at 3-3 on aggregate (each team gaining a 2-1 home victory) and with no overtime periods, Ederson, Deivid Willian de Silva, Fran Merida, Natanael Batista Pimenta, Thiago Rodrigues da Silva (a.k.a. Mosquito), and Manoel Messias Silva Carvalho each converted a spot kick as the hosts won the penalty-kick shootout 5-4 over the Peruvian club to advance to the group stage. The Brazilian club will play in Group One alongside Argentina's Velez Sarsfield, The Strongest from Bolivia, and Universitario de Deportes from Peru.
At Rio de Janeiro:
Wallyson (does he have a brother named Beaverson?) delivered a natural hat trick (33', 66', 79') as Botafogo overturned their opening-match road defeat by demolishing visiting Deportivo Quito 4-0 in game two and won their series 4-1 on aggregate. The Brazilian club will play in Group Two along with Chile's Union Espanola, Argentina's San Lorenzo, and Ecuador's Independiente del Valle.
