2014 FIFA World Cup: El Tri Blank Cameroon; Dutch Avenge 2010 Title Game Defeat By Demolishing Defending Champs; Chile Hold Of Socceroos

Three games were played in Brazil on Friday as the 2014 FIFA World Cup continued.

Group A:

At Natal:
Mexico triumphed in the rain despite officiating mistakes. (Getty Images)
Oribe Peralta scored the only goal of the match (at least one that wasn't canceled) in the 61st minute as Mexico, despite having two goals incorrectly disallowed,  defeated Cameroon 1-0.  Here are the Mexicans celebrating their group-stage opening victory.

2. Mexico (GP: 1; GD: +1; PTS: 3)

Group B:

At Salvador:

Robin Van Persie (44', 72', that's him celebrating) and Arjen Robben (53', 80') each scored twice as the Netherlands scored four goals in the second half and demolished defending champions Spain 5-1 in a rematch of the title game of the 2010 tournament which the Spaniards won.  This marked the most lopsided defeat ever suffered in the World Cup by a defending champion.
