At Vancouver, British Columbia:
Kei Kamara (63') and Alphonso Davies (70') each scored a goal in the final half-hour as the Vancouver Whitecaps opened their season by holding off the visiting Montreal Impact 2-1.
At Kansas City, Kansas:
Maxi Morales (32') and Jesus Medina (53') each scored once as New York City blanked Sporting Kansas City 2-0 on the road in the season opener for both clubs.
At Carson, California:
Ola Kamara (32') and Romain Alessandrini (34') each scored once as the new-look Los Angeles Galaxy held off the visiting Portland Timbers 2-1 in the season-opening match for both clubs as the hosts spoiled Giovanni Savarese's debut as Portland's head coach.
