Carlos Rivas scored twice (79'. 90'+2) as the New York Red Bulls---coming off their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series-opening 2-0 road victory over Club Tijuana----opened their league season by demolishing the visiting Portland Timbers 4-0.
At Orlando, Florida:
Ethan Finlay (12', 79') scored twice as Minnesota United defeated Orlando City 2-1 on the road.
