Charles Aranguiz scored the winning goal in the 67th minute as Bayer Leverkusen took the opening match of their series with Rangers 3-1 on the road.

Marcos Antonio scored the game winner in the 73rd minute as Shakhtar Donetsk knocked off VfL Wolfsburg 2-1 on the road in game one.
