Esperance ST held hosts JSM Bejaia to a series-opening 0-0 stalemate.
At Johannesburg, South Africa:
Collins Mbesuma scored twice (57', PK-90'+2) as Orlando Pirates took game one of their two-match series with TP Mazembe 3-1 at home.
