OFC Champions League: Road Draw In Tahiti Sends Auckland City To Semifinal Round

Two games were played in Group B over the weekend as group-stage play in the OFC Champions League came to a close.

At Pirae, Tahiti:

Manel Exposito's equalizer in the 39th minute on Saturday carried Auckland City to a 1-1 road draw with AS Dragon and a berth in the semifinal round as the hosts were eliminated.

At Noumea, New Caledonia:

Chris Palmer scored twice (1', PK-53') while Ryan De Vries delivered the game winner in the 78th minute as Waitakere United claimed the Group B title with a 3-2 road win over AS Mont-Dore.

FINAL GROUP B STANDINGS:

1. Waitakere United (GP: 6; GD: +3; PTS: 13)
2. Auckland City (GP: 6; GD: +11; PTS: 10)
3. AS Dragon (GP: 6; GD: +4; PTS: 9)
4. AS Mont-Dore (GP: 6; GD: -18; PTS: 1)

Semifinal match-ups:

Auckland City will host Ba FC in the opening match of their two-game series next Saturday with the return contest to take place at Ba, Fiji on May 11.

Waitakere United will travel to Port Vila, Vanuatu for the opening match of their semifinal series with Amicale FC this coming Saturday, with the return match to take place in Auckland, New Zealand the following Saturday.

The semifinal winners will meet in a one-match final to take place at Auckland, New Zealand on May 19.  The winner of that game will play in this coming December's FIFA World Cup, which is slated to take place in Morocco.
