Sounders Thump Red Bulls In Opener As Fredy Montero Doubles; Portland Expected To Get Expansion Club Friday

The 2009 Major League Soccer regular season commenced on Thursday:

At Seattle:

In front of 32,523 fans at Qwest Field, Fredy Montero scored twice (12', 75') and Brad Evans added a goal of his own (25', he's seen here celebrating with teammates) as the Seattle Sounders FC smothered the visiting New York Red Bulls 3-0 in their i
naugural regular season contest. 39 year-old Kasey Keller, a veteran of the US national team and many years in Europe posted a shutout in his MLS debut.

MLS commissioner Don Garber, who was at the game, when interviewed at halftime during the ESPN2 telecast, said that there will be a press conference in Portland, Oregon on Friday. That is when the announcement of the other 2011 expansion club (besides Vancouver, which was awarded a franchise on Wednesday) will be made.

Hmmmm. I wonder what that could be about.
