Copa America: Brazil, Venezuela, Paraguay Reach Quarterfinals

Two games were played in Group B on Wednesday as group stage action in the Copa America concluded in Argentina.


At Salta:


Late goals from Nicolas Fedor (89') and Grenddy Perozo (90'+2) lifted Venezuela from a two-goal deficit to gain a 3-3 draw with Paraguay.  Jose Rondon also scored for the Venezuelans at 5 minutes.  Goals from Antolin Alcaraz (33'), Lucas Barrios (62'), and Cristian Riveros (85') were enough for the Paraguayans as the draw allowed them to advance (along with Venezuela) into the quarterfinals and eliminate Costa Rica from the tournament.


At Cordoba:


Alexandre Pato (27', 60') and Neymar (48', 71') each scored twice as Brazil doubled up Ecuador 4-2 and advanced to the quarterfinals and eliminated their opponents.


FINAL GROUP B STANDINGS:


1. Brazil (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 5)
2. Venezuela (GP: 3; GD: +1; PTS: 5)
3. Paraguay (GP: 3; GD: 0; PTS: 3)
4. Ecuador (GP: 3; GD: -3; PTS: 1)


Brazil, Venezuela, and Paraguay all advanced to the quarterfinal round while Ecuador were eliminated.
