UEFA Champions League Draw: Benfica, Maccabi Haifa, Viktoria Plzen, Dinamo Zagreb, FC Copenhagen Take Series Openers

The remaining seven two-game series in the third round of UEFA Champions League qualifying commenced on Wednesday.


Champions Path:


At Haifa, Israel:

Maccabi Haifa, thanks to goals courtesy of Vladimir Dvalishvili (PK-8') and Bamidele Yampolsky (70'), topped visiting NK Maribor 2-1 in game one.  The Slovenian club stayed in this series, thanks to a potentially precious away goal from Marcos at 27 minutes.


At Helsinki, Finland:

Sammir provided the winning goal at 77 minutes as Dinamo Zagreb topped HJK Helsinki 2-1 on the road in game one.


At Copenhagen, Denmark:

Solvi Ottesen scored the only goal of the match in the 4th minute as FC Copenhagen held on for a 1-0 series-opening home win over Shamrock Rovers.


At Trondheim, Norway:

Vaclav Pilaf scored the lone goal of the match at 33 minutes as FC Viktoria Plzen knocked off Rosenborg 1-0 in the opening contest of their two-game series.


Non-Champions Path:


At Odense, Denmark:

Sebastian Leto scored at 47 minutes as Panathinaikos gained a 1-1 series-opening draw with Odense Bollklub.  Tore Reginiussen equalized for the hosts at 90 minutes as they avoided defeat.


At Liege, Belgium:

Nacho Gonzalez cheesed in the game-tying goal at 90 minutes, enabling Standard Liege to salvage a 1-1 home draw in their series opener with FC Zurich.  Admir Mehmedi scored for the visiting Swiss club at 79 minutes to technically give them the advantage heading to next week's return match in Zurich.


At Lisbon, Portugal:

Nolito (71') and Nicolas Gaitan (88') provided the goalpower as SL Benfica blanked visiting Trabzonspor 2-0 in their series opener.
