AFC Champions League: Suwon Bluewings and Al-Sadd (Helped By Forfeit Win In Game One) Advance To Semifinals

The second contest of each of the two remaining series from the quarterfinal round of the AFC Champions League took place on Wednesday.

At Isfahan, Iran:

After Yang Sang-Min's 77th-minute equalizer lifted Suwon Samsung Bluewings to a 1-1 road draw in game two with Zob Ahan, causing the two-game series to be deadlocked at 2-2, Mato Neretkjak scored the series-winning goal in overtime (99'), enabling the South Korean club to win the series 3-2 on aggregate.

At Doha, Qatar:

Despite dropping a 2-1 game-two decision at home to Sepahan, Al-Sadd won their two-game series 4-2 on aggregate.  The club from Qatar were awarded a 3-0 forfeit win in the opening contest from two weeks ago in Iran when the Iranian club were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player (Zob Ahan had actually won that game 1-0).

The semifinal round is scheduled to start on October 19 with Al-Sadd visiting Suwon Samsung Bluewings and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors at Al-Ittihad, with the return contests for both series taking place on October 26.

The semifinal series winners will square off in a one-match final, set to take place on November 4 or 5 at a site still to be determined.  The winner would move on to December's FIFA Club World Cup, to take place in Japan.
