CONCACAF Champions League: Sounders Clinch Berth In Quarterfinals; Herediano Eliminated

Three games were played on Tuesday as Match Day #5 in the group stage of the CONCACAF  Champions League commenced.


Group C:


At Toronto:


Marco Palacios' equalizer at 51 minutes enabled UNAM Pumas to gain a 1-1 road draw with Toronto FC.  Peri Marosevic scored for the Reds in the 35th minute.


Group D:


At Guatemala City:


Osvaldo Alonso scored twice (44', 89') as the Seattle Sounders battled back from two one-goal deficits to gain a 2-2 draw on the road with Comunicaciones, enabling them to become the first club to advance to the quarterfinal round.  Transito Montepeque (7') and Rafael Morales (64') each tallied once for the hosts.


At Monterrey, Mexico:


Aldo de Nigris scored the lone goal of the match in the 30th minute as Monterrey gained sole possession of second place with Group D with a 1-0 home win over Herediano, eliminating the Costa Rican club from the tournament.
