CAF Champions League: Draw With AS Vita Club Hands Group A Title To TP Mazembe

Group-stage play in the AFC Champions League concluded on Sunday with two games.

Group A:

At Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo:

In a battle of semifinal-round-bound Congolese clubs, a 0-0 road draw against AS Vita Club enabled TP Mazembe to finish atop the Group A standings, thanks to head-to-head record.

FINAL GROUP A STANDINGS:

1. TP Mazembe (GP: 6; GD: +3; PTS: 11)
2. AS Vita Club (GP: 6; GD: +2; PTS: 11)
3. Al-Hilal (GP: 6; GD: -2; PTS: 7)
4. Zamalek (GP: 6; GD: -3; PTS: 4)

TP Mazembe and AS Vita Club advanced to the semifinal round.



Group B:

At Rades, Tunisia:

Saif Jerbi's successful penalty kick in the 70th minute provided all the scoring as Esperance ST defeated visiting Al-Ahly Benghazi 1-0 in the tournament finale for both clubs.

1. CS Sfaxien (GP: 6; GD: +3; PTS: 11)
2. ES Setif (GP: 6; GD: +3; PTS: 10)
3. Esperance ST (GP: 6; GD: -1; PTS: 7)
4. Al-Ahly Benghazi (GP: 6; GD: -5; PTS: 4)

CS Sfaxien and ES Setif advanced to the semifinal round.

The semifinal round is slated to start the weekend of September 19-21 with the return contests the following weekend.  The game-one hosts are listed first.

AS Vita Club (Democratic Republic of Congo) vs. CS Sfaxien (Tunisia)

The semifinal winners will face off in the two-match final which is slated to start the weekend of October 24-26 with the return match the following weekend.  The match one hosts are listed first.

AS Vita Club-CS Sfaxien winner vs. ES Setif-TP Mazembe winner

The winner of the two-match final would then advance to December's FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in Morocco.
