Europa League Playoff Round

29 games were played on Thursday as the Europa League’s playoff round continued.

At Astana, Kazakhstan:

Cani (33'), Giovani dos Santos (48'), and Mario Gaspar (84') provided the scoring as Villarreal all but secured a berth in the group stage following their 3-0 series-opening road domination of FC Astana.

At Aktobe, Kazakhstan:

Ondrej Duda scored the only goal of the match in the 48th minute as Legia Warsaw defeated FC Aktobe 1-0 in the opening match of their two-game series on the road.

At Khimki, Russia:

Christopher Samba (33') and Alexander Buttner (72') each scored a goal as Dynamo Moscow salvaged a series-opening 2-2 home draw with AC Omonia.  Ucha Lobzhanidze (2') and Gaoussou Fofana (59') delivered the scoring for the visiting Cypriot club.

At Larnaca, Cyprus:

Roberto Soldado (74') and Harry Kane (80') delivered the second-half goals as Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to upend AEL Limassol 2-1 on the road in their series opener.

At Baku, Azerbaijan:

The opening contest between Qarabag FK and visiting FC Twente resulted in a 0-0 stalemate.

At Helsinki, Finland:

Robin Lod (63') and Mika Vayrynen (74') each scored a goal as HJK Helsinki took the opening contest of their series with Rapid Vienna 2-1.  Louis Schaub scored for the visiting Austrian club in the 58th minute.

At Gliwice, Poland:

Ruch Chorzow and visiting FC Metalist Kharkiv battled to a series-opening 0-0 deadlock.

At Eindhoven, Netherlands:

Adam Maher scored the only goal of the match in the 59th minute as PSV Eindhoven defeated visiting FC Shakhtyor Salihorsk 1-0 in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Barysaw, Minsk:

Igor Stasevich (PK-44') and Nemanja Nikolic (55') produced the goals as Dinamo Minsk blanked visiting CD Nacional 2-0 in game one of the clubs' two-contest series.


At Boras, Sweden:

Viktor Prodell (27') and Daniel Mobaeck (38') each scored a goal as IF Elfsborg topped visiting Rio Ave 2-1 in the opening match of their two-game series.  Marcelo dos Santos Ferreira scored a potentially precious goal for the Portuguese club in the 65th minute.

At Karabuk, Turkey:

Dominick Kumbela scored the only goal of the match in the 60th minute as Karabukspor took the opening match of their two-game series with  Saint-Etienne 1-0 at home.

At Ploiesti, Romania:

Duje Cop scored twice (29', 80') as Dinamo Zagreb defeated FC Petrolul Ploiesti 3-1 on the road in match one of their two-game series.

At Nicosia, Cypurs:

Abraham Guie Genki's equalizer in the 80th minute enabled Apollon Limassol to salvage a 1-1 series-opening home deadlock with  Lokomotiv Moscow, whose goal came courtesy of Alan Kasaev in the 39th minute.

At Bern Switzerland:

Rapha Nuzzolo (26'), Renato Steffen (67'), and Michael Frey (87') each delivered a goal as BSC Young Boys topped visiting Debreceni VSC 3-1 in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Kiev, Ukraine:

Mitchell te Vrede's equalizer in the 38th minute lifted Feyenoord Rotterdam to a series-opening 1-1 road draw with FC Zorya Luhansk, in a match that was transferred to the Ukrainian capital due to the ongoing conflict between the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian separatists in the eastern part of the country.  Maxym Bily scored for Zorya in the 27th minute.


At Zwolle, Netherlands:

Ladislav Krejci's equalizer in the 82nd minute carried Sparta Prague to a series-opening 1-1 road draw with PEC Zwolle.  Jody Lukoki scored for the hosts at 77 minutes.

At Trabzon, Turkey:

Carl Medjani (37') and Oscar Cardozo (73') delivered the goals as Trabzonspor blanked visiting FC Rostov 2-0 in their series opener.

At Athens:

Marcus Berg delivered a natural first-half hat trick (PK-21', 24', 45') as Panathinaikos dominated visiting FC Midtjylland 4-1 in the opening game of their two-match series.

At Chisinau, Moldova:

Stefan Burghiu scored the only goal of FC Zimbru Chisinau's series-opening 1-0 home win over PAOK FC in the  (Greece) in the 80th minute.

At Zlate Moravce, Slovakia:

Mohamed Amine Chermiti delivered a hat trick (4', 45'+2, 58') as FC Zurich took the opening game of their series with FC Spartak Trnava 3-1 on the road.

At Tripoli, Greece:

Pablo Mazza had a hand in both goals as he scored himself in the 29th minute and assisted on Georgios Zisopoulos' tally in the 47th minute as Asteras Tripoli blanked visiting Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-0 in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Belgrade, Serbia:

Denis Silva Cruz scored three goals---two for his own team (11', 17')---and one own goal for Partizan Belgrade in the 29th minute as the Serbian club erased a two-goal deficit and overtook visiting Neftch Baku 3-2 in the opening contest of their two-game series.  Petar Grbic scored for Partizan in the 32nd minute and the Azerbaijani club's Elvin Yunuszada's own goal proved to be the game winner for Partizan in the 69th minute.

At St. Gallen, Switzerland:

Goals from Sanel Jahic (OG-14') and Victor Vazquez (15')---a minute apart---lifted Club Brugge to a series-opening 2-1 road win over Grasshoppers.

At Dugopolje, Croatia:

RNK Split and visiting Torino FC battled to a series-opening 0-0 draw.

At Lyon, France:

Kehinde Fatai (72') and Constantin Budescu (PK-81') delivered the goals as FC Astra Giurgiu came from behind to scored a series-opening 2-1 road win over Lyon.

At Lokeren, Belgium:

Hans Vanaken scored the only goal of the match in the 58th minute as Lokeren took their series opener with Hull City 1-0 at home.

At San Sebastian, Spain:

Xabi Prieto scored the only goal of Real Sociedad's series-opening 1-0 home win over Russia's FC Krasnodar in the 71st minute.


At Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina:

Branimir Hrgota scored twice (41', 73') as Borussia Monchengladbach overcame two one-goal deficits and defeated FK Sarajevo 3-2 on the road in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Rijeka, Croatia:

Marin Leovac scored the only goal of the match in the 85th minute as HNK Rijeka grabbed a 1-0 series-opening home victory over FC Sheriff.
