Copa America: Team USA Demoishes Ticos; Colombia Holds Off Paraguay, Locks Up Berth In Quarterfinals

The second cycle of group-stage contests commenced on Tuesday in the Copa America with two games in Group A.

At Chicago:

Clint Dempsey had a hand in three goals, successfully converting a penalty kick in the ninth minute while assisting on scored from Jermaine Jones (37') and Bobby Wood (42') as the United States ran roughshod over Costa Rica 4-0.  Graham Zusi capped off the Americans' scoring in the 87th minute.  It was Team USA's most lopsided victory over the Ticos.

At Pasadena, California:

Carlos Bacca (12') and James Rodriguez (30') delivered the goals as Colombia became the first team to clinch a berth in the quarterfinal round following their 2-1 victory over ten-man Paraguay.
