CONCACAF Champions League: Islanders, Pumas Clinch Quarterfinal Berth With Draw

Wednesday marked the continuation of group stage play in the CONCACAF Champions League:

Group A:

At San Jose, Costa Rica:

Alejandro Alpizar's goal (61') proved to be all the scoring as Deportivo Saprissa defeated visiting Cruz Azul 1-0.

Francisco Palencia's double (28', 54') was just part of an offensive barrage that enabled UNAM Pumas to obliterate San Francisco FC (Panama) 6-0 at home and clinch the top spot in Group B.

Goals from Osei Telesford (16') and Fabrice Noel (29') enabled the Puerto Rico Islanders to gain a 2-2 road draw with Tauro FC (whose goals were scored by Brunet Hay [PK-43', 77'] and gained a berth in the quarterfinal round because of head-to-head competition with the Panamanian club. The Islanders had a win and a draw in the two matches.
