Copa Libertadores: Group-Stage Plays Commences: Atletico Mineiro Wins On Road To Start Title Defense

Five games were played on Tuesday as action in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores got under way.

Group One:

At Lima, Peru:

Hector Canteros scored the only goal of the match in the 80th minute as Velez Sarsfield knocked off Universitario 1-0 on the road.

Group Two:

At Rio de Janeiro:

Juan Carlos Ferreyra (29') and Wallyson (51') each scored a goal as Botafogo blanked visiting San Lorenzo 2-0.

Group Four:

At Barinas, Venezuela:

Jo scored the lone goal of the match in the 87th minute as Atletico Mineiro opened defense of their continental club championship with a 1-0 road win over Zamora FC.

At Bogota, Colombia:

Edison Mendez (57'), Daniel Torres (58'), and Jonathan Copete (80') delivered the second-half goals as Independiente Santa Fe defeated visiting Club Nacional of Paraguay 3-1.
