Copa Libertadores Qualifying: Universidad de Chile, Lanus Advance To Group Stage

The qualifying round for Copa Libertadores group-stage berths concluded with two games played on Thursday.

At Asuncion, Paraguay:

Ramon Fernandez (52'), Isaac Diaz (74'), and Patricio Rubio (90'+1) each scored a goal as Universidad de Chile defeated Club Guarani 3-2 on the road in game two and won their two-game series 4-2 on aggregate. The Chilean club will play in Group Five alongside Brazil's Cruzeiro, Uruguay's Defensor Sporting, and Peru's Real Garcilaso. 

At Lanus, Argentina:

Victor Ayala scored the only goal of the match in the 70th minute as Lanus blanked visiting Caracas FC 1-0 in game two and competed their two-match whitewashing of the Venezuelan club 3-0 on aggregate and locked up a place in Group Three alongside Paraguay's Cerro Porteno, Argentina's Newell's Old Boys, and Colombia's Deportivo Cali.

Group-stage play begins next Tuesday.
